I have a Asus X550L notebook which support UEFI boot. I properly installed Windows 8.1 (64bit) using a pen drive (installer created 4 partitions). Windows 8.1 also shows this laptop has UEFI (in disk manager and recovery settings).

But when I choose "Reboot to UEFI firmware" in Windows recovery option it automatically boot into the BIOS not the UEFI. Also in BIOS when i select "Launch EFI Shell from filesystem device" it shows not found.

What could be the reason?

UEFI is the BIOS, basically. Machines with UEFI based systems don't have a "BIOS" you can enter and make adjustments to, the UEFI interface is where you are when it says BIOS menu. It's a misnomer that systems still say "press delete or F2 to enter BIOS". They should say "to enter UEFI settings". The UEFI does generally sit on top of the BIOS, so to speak, but you don't have both separately.
