Is it possible to increase a laptops resolution beyond its native one? Mine has max 1366x768. I want to increase it to 1600x900, can I do that? and if yes, how? A friend of mine has the same laptop but his display lets him go all the way to 1900x1080.

Native resolution is determined by the physical structure of the display and cannot be changed in any way.

If you use some form of hack to unlock higher resolutions, the GPU or display will simply down-scale your "higher resolution" output to the display's native resolution and the result usually looks like crap compared to straight native resolution.

The native resolution is the number of pixels that make up your display. To run at any other resolution than native requires some sort of scaling - "fudging" to make it work. This results less than optimal clarity.

It's also worth noting that when you purchase most laptops from manufacturer's websites, you have the option to upgrade the display to a higher resolution one. So two laptops of the same model may have different displays, just as they can have different amount of RAM, different CPUs, etc.
