The Best Application For chatting/Message on PC

I just want to chat with my friend and My phone is broken right now. Me and him doesnt go in the same class, so we dont end school at the same time.
What application is the best for this task? (chatting/messsage) FOR PC!

I'm pretty sure AOL Instant Messenger still exists. You could also use the chat function in Steam. If you are friends on Facebook, that has chat/email function.

Look into google hangouts, it can be used as an SMS replacement, all you need is a google account.
