Hi all,

I'm new here but I've been having a dilemma for the past few weeks; which is deciding on an ultrabook to get. I need it for work and word processing mainly and I have a few options at the moment but am very open to suggestions. Before I say my current options I'll list the kind of specifications I'm looking for:
-Good battery life (averaging at 7 hours+, on with programs running)
-Slim (obviously)
-Decent screen (i.e 1920x1080 so I'm able to watch films when going away)
-Fast opening and running programs
-Quick boot time (preferably booting Windows 7 in under 15 seconds (maybe Windows 8))
-Decent amount of RAM (8gb or 16gb)
-250Gb (maybe 500Gb) SSD to save work on
-Reasonably quiet in terms of fans
-Doesn't heat up too much whilst running basic software (i.e Microsoft Word etc.)
-Also I don't know if it's too much to ask but the ability to run simple games (like Osu, emulators and 8-bit steam games)

Right sorry if that sounds really demanding, but now for the list of options:
~Macbook Pro 13" Retina (2014 model) 256Gb
~Ultranote 2 15.6" (PC Specialist - Clevo 550EU)
~Dell Inspiron 14-7000
~Asus Zenbook UX301
~Samsung ATIV Book 9 NP940X3G-K02UK
~Sony Vaio Pro 13"

Any other suggestions are fine! I've heard that some Lenovo's are excellent. I'm not against Macbooks but I am a Windows guy so I don't know my compatibility with apple software!! XD

Thank you :3

Hey Aleder97,

Out of all those options, I'd say my favorites would be either the ASUS Zenbook or a Macbook Pro. I just made the switch from Windows to Apple and it's been relatively easy.

The Zenbook looks great and it has pretty good performance for the battery life if you're looking for a Windows laptop. If you want more power in your laptop and battery life, I'd suggest a Macbook Pro.

Apple has made it possible to achieve 8-hours of battery life with a Quad-Core i7 Processor in their 15 inch laptops. This is even more impressive in their 13 inch laptops with a dual-core set-up and a 9-hour battery life. The issue with ultraportable Windows laptops is their processor and usage of the "U" processors, which inhibit power, but grant...
First all the laptops you have listed can do everything you have said, although I have never heard of the Ultranote before.
Second I am most familiar with asus as I have one and they are great. The only problem I seem to have is the mouse pad sometimes takes a long time to set up but that may be because I have a hard drive and a lot of games and software which I assume you won't
Third if you are on a budget the Dell is the cheapest I think and the most maintainable.

You could always go with the macbook air as it has a very good battery life but I wouldn't use it if you are using windows.

Apart from that it is really up to you.

That's just my two cents!

Let me know if you have any questions! :)
