Hello everyone. I'm looking into a new laptop for a friends father. His vision is not great, so a 17" inch screen is a must for him. It will be used mostly for web browsing and online video. Can anyone recommend something in this category? Build quality is important, as he doesn't want to replace it anytime soon. Thanks in advance for your time.

I would go for a hp laptop but with a weaker processor so you can get better battery life as you are not doing a lot of cpu intensive tasks. I think a hp laptop with an and a4 should be enough for you.

Alternatively, and I know you said it has to be a laptop but you could get a nexus 7 and chromecast and mirror the screen onto your tv which is much bigger than a laptop , plus its a lot cheaper and you could get a bluetooth keyboard if the on screen keyboard is too small.
I would get the following 17.3" HP Pavilion 17-f004dx from Bestbuy for $499.99 + tax. Just walk in and buy it. It has an AMD A10-5745m APU with the integrated Radeon HD 8610g graphics core decently powerful for an integrated GPU. However, I am guessing your friend's father is not into playing games so the performance of the iGPU isn't really that important.

Like most low end 17" laptops, the resolution is 1600x900 so things should text still be legible with below average eyesight. The resolution can always be dropped down to 1366x768 if necessary.
