Backstory: (feel free to skip this part if tl;dr, main part is at bold)

My laptop had suddenly died one day a couple of months ago. HP Pavilion dv7.

I tried turning the power on and nothing. I plugged the AC adapter in, no charging light. I checked the voltage on the AC adapter and it was still working. I checked the battery on my extended battery; all in working order. Computer gave zero response with the battery, and without. I tried troubleshooting it for a couple of weeks.

I figured it was either a busted motherboard or the charging port needed replaced. I don't live in the US anymore, so proper parts would take a while to arrive. I settled with ordering a new, cheaper computer. I've been using this computer since, doing mostly work related things.

Main part:
Okay, so it's been a couple of months. A replacement AC port had arrived, but I had just been too lazy to try replacing it since I have another computer to work with now and the HP is 4 years old.

Out of boredom, I plugged the AC adapter in. A CHARGE LIGHT came on. Huh? I let it charge and tried starting it up. It worked. Now it's back in normal working order

Question is: What could have possibly happened to my computer? Nothing was changed within these couple of months besides letting it sit there untouched for a long time. I don't have confidence it'll stick around, but I've been on it for a couple of days and it's been fine...

So, what was wrong with it do you think? Has this ever happened to you?
