Hello and good evening to you all, i need some urgent help please. I have a sony cybershot camera, with a 32gb Sandisc extreme memory card. I have used the camera and the memory card without any trouble for more than a year …until today.

I’ve been unable to download the photos from the memory card to my computer or for that matter to view them on any device other than the camera itself. They are very precious family reunion photos so I am desperate to access them and save them.

Initially I placed the SDCard into a card reader which I then opened on my PC. All the images appeared (as usual) and I selected them all to copy/paste into a folder on my backup disc. Almost instantly I received an error message telling me that the files could not be copied because they did not exist in their original location (whatever that was intended to mean).

I then tried to download the images directly from the camera to the PC but received the same error message.

I also tried to access the images on another PC directly from the camera and then also by once again inserting the SDcard into a card reader I plug into the computer. But no matter what I do I get the same error :
Location unavailable.

And the DCIM folder in which the images would normally appear now contains two oddly labelled file folders.

The funny thing is when I insert the memory card into the camera, all the pictures show fine, so at least they are on the memory card.

The folders appearing in the DCIM folder where the images were visible initially when I've first tried to copy them are listed on the system as being empty. However, the SDCard is very clearly near full – so the images MUST be on the card somewhere. I have checked to ensure I am able to view invisible files on the SDCard too, but none seem to appear. And I have also run a recovery program (Recuva) to see if the files can be found, but all that was recovered were old images that I had deleted several months back.

I should also add that I am certain the images are not recorded in the internal memory.
For one thing, the 32gb SD Card I'm trying to access has 30gb of images on it from this trip I've just taken to the family reunion and the internal memory is no where near that capacity.
For another, I can see the six images from the in-built memory in a seperate folder when I open the camera's folders on the computer.

So where are the images I can view on the camera being stored on the SD card.
And more importantly, how do I download these very precious images to my backup media.

I'm a bit confused as ALL the images I wish to save show when viewing via the camera.

Any and all assistance would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

I believe from what you are describing is that your memory card is dying. You can try to do a recovery below, or perhaps opt for some expert service to attempt it.
