I have a 27" Sony FD Trinitron analog TV with RCA connectors, one bank labelled YPrBr. I have tried to connect laptops to this TV using a couple of different HDMI converters, each with the ability to output to YPrBr. Neither converter worked on my TV. I did see one of them work on the seller's analog TV. I used ordinary RCA cables. I set the Video button on the TV to Video 4. I got some sort of video signal, but nothing resembling a picture. One of the converter's specs indicated output to 480i. The TV specs references 480i in association with the YPrBr connectors. I tried the other RCA connectors with no difference in the display. I am curious to know why I was not able to get any kind of a picture - even a poor quality one.

If the video resolution of the laptop is set higher than the resolution of the TV you won't get a picture. I would set the HDMI out as your 2nd display and set the resolution as 480i since that is the spec you have for the TV. Component video can usually do 720p. Try the lowest setting that the video driver will allow if that one is not among the choices.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I have tried the lowest setting (640 X 480). Regarding the HDMI out as the 2nd display, if I am correct, the control for this on Win 7 and 8 is found by pressing the Windows key and "P"., which brings up "Project to". Under this option I tried selecting at different times "Duplicate" and "Extend". The other options are not relevant ("Pc screen only" and "Second screen only".
