Why does the game 'Mr Crab' on IOS use 'Metal' as it isn't a graphics intensive game

I would like to know why the game 'Mr Crabs' uses 'Metal' as the game isn't graphics intensive and looks like it could produce the same graphics on an iPad 2?

That would be a question to ask the developer. Although personally based on what I know of programmers it might have been done as a way to get used to the new API doing something simple first instead of going straight into the a graphically intensive game as the first application they make using that API.

As the new graphics API is more efficient, it could render the same graphics with less GPU utilisation, leading to less battery use.
