So today when i go and switch on the laptop, the LED lights up, however the fans do not start. The laptop is dead silent.

Someone said the SMPS might have gone bad, but i reckon Laptops don't have SMPS right? Since the task is performed by the power adapter. So what may be the possible reasons? If there's a MoBo component failure, what are the odds that my hard disk might have gone bad too since i have some important data in it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, you can start with the adapter, verify the voltage from the adapter, it's written on the adapter itself.

Remove the battery, use only the adapter, you can remove the DVD drive if you have one.
Verify the RAMs, if you have more than one, use one at a time.
You can remove the HDD, but I don't think the HDD stop the laptop to function.
Also, try to go in the BIOS, but I don't think it will work.

One good thing to know, which laptop we are talking about, what is the make and model of your laptop?

Nevermind, after trying a lot myself i gave it to the Lenovo Service Center. They deemed the motherboard shorted up. It is no longer repairable. I have to ditch the entire laptop. Thanks for replying and trying to help me out.

Meanwhile to compensate my loss i'm building a budget desktop PC. I'll be opening up a thread soon for it. Thanks.
