So I have purchased a new hard drive and bracket for my MSI GT60-2OC. I know how to actually plug in the hard drive and screw it down, but is there any software I need to install or formatting I need to do in order for it to work properly? I already have an SSD as my main drive, this second drive is a mechanical HDD.

The new drive most likely comes formatted and will just appear as a drive.
If not, type "Computer" in the "search programs and files" and open Computer Management.
Select "Disk Management".
From here you can initialise the drive and create or delete partitions if necessary.
More than likely ready to go out of the box.
