Hey everyone, not a problem so much as a question. Recently my OS crashed on my lenovo y510p. When I reinstalled windows 8 with a flash drive it only allowed me to put it on by 24Gb ssd that the laptop came with so I did (originally it was on the 1Tb HDD). I've been running my computer like this for about a week with no problems, I moved most of the larger files off my smaller C Drive to my larger D drive to make some room. I disabled hybrid mode and have about 2-4 Gb's left in room, I know that is basically NO room. I'm getting a larger drive SSD tomorrow to put my OS on tomorrow (128GB) because everyone has said that 24Gb's is too small. So just out of curiosity, theoretically what eventually happen if I left my computer like this.
Thanks, hope I didn't confuse anyone, just a theoretical what would have happened question.

Nothing will really happen, per se. It's not out of the question to have a small SSD for the OS, although people typically go for 32GB or 64GB for the extra bit of wiggle room. You'd never be able to install much of anything on that 24GB SSD, or store anything, but it's really not an issue; you want that SSD to boot up your system quickly, not to actually do things (although SSD are very handy for doing things if you care about load times). As long as you have a larger secondary drive to install programs and store miscellaneous things, it should be fine.

If you're going for a bigger SSD, I would suggest possibly even springing for a 250GB one. Prices have gone down considerably, and a 250GB will run you approximately $100 USD these days. The performance and reduced load times are worth the money if that's something you care about.

The 24gb ssd should have just been a cache drive, not intended to load the windows OS on it. Why were you not able to load windows onto the 1TB partition??

FYI by putting in the SSD you will reduce your storage size, granted the performance gains will be great.

Your laptop might support a larger msata ssd drive (what your 24gb cahce chip is) and then you could have both.

Another option is to get a dvd drive caddy that will allow you to fit your 1tb hard drive into the dvd drive slot. I do this on my laptop and put the dvd drive in an external enclosure for the 4 times a year I need it. If you go this route you will need to find out if your laptop has a 9mm or 12.7mm dvd drive to get the appropriate caddy. Mine is the silverstone one and they sell both sizes.
