hello,
i have just built a computer and am just running the hdmi out the motherboard hdmi, through a yamaha receiver and into the tv. the hdmi on the receiver works with other device and my computer works when connected directly to the tv but there is no video or audio when i try to tun it through the reciever.
Any suggestions

Solution
First, i suggest hooking directly up to the HDTV itself to establish that is working.

For setup you would go to the VIDEO CONTROL PANEL in Windows (AMD, NVidia, or Intel) and setup the screen from there. You should be using the HDTV section, not simply adding a 2nd monitor but I don't have a lot of experience with this.

For example, you might have to choose "1080p_NTSC@60Hz" and adjust the overscan. Then enable the audio elsewhere in Playback Devices or in the Video Control Panel.

Then...
I don't know what you've done so far, but the HDTV won't be added automatically. It must show up in your Video Control Panel, then you have to enable it as a 2nd monitor in some configuration (Extended, Cloned, or as the ONLY monitor).

If you get...

If you get it working straight to the HDTV, then the receiver should work fine. Some receivers can auto-detect an attached device and some may need you to manually choose the input. I'd probably do something like THIS once it's working straight to the TV:
a) Turn OFF HDTV (when working from PC)
b) Move HDMI cable to receiver
c) Turn ON TV
d) Change input if needed (no image on screen)

Cheers.

Have you checked your setup on the receiver itself to ensure that the PC is in an input connection rather than an output? Is the particular connection point on the receiver active? It sounds as though it is if you've verified operation with another device on that same input.

Verify all input/output connections on the receiver. There should only be one HDMI connection between the receiver and the TV and if you've got more than one connected, that could be an issue as one of the inputs on the TV may not be active.
