Hi. I made an account on this forum to see if someone could help me with my problem.

I have just bought a new laptop - Acer Aspire v5-573G. It's working fine except some small nuisances that are hardly worth mentioning.

But when I'm browsing on firefox (Have not tested on other browsers), sometimes when using the multitouch function on my touchpad to scroll up or down on the website, the browser and mouse cursor freezes for 5-10 seconds. I can still use the keyboard to alt-tab and do something else, but the browser is frozen and the keyboard won't work in that window. After the 5-10 seconds of freezing, everything returns to normal.

I really hope someone can help me with my problem.

It could be that you don't have the most up to date mouse driver. Check that you do. Another reason could be that you have too many background processes which is putting strain on you cpu which is causing it to pause.

Check these 2 things and let me know if it has made any difference. If not let me know and I will try and help.

Thanks for your answer.

I'm a total sucker when it comes to updating drivers. I went into the device manager to see what driver I had, and it showed synaptics driver. I then went to synaptics' website to download their newest driver, but it fails when I try to install it. Can you maybe direct me to a way to find out what driver I need?

I did not know how to install the drivers listed, and I did not know which drivers I needed. So I tried installing SlimDrivers freeware for updating drivers automatically - seemed the easier choice for me.
I read a lot about the software on the internet, and despite the many warnings about trojans and whatnot, I decided to listen to the few ones that said it was a great piece of software. So I downloaded it and installed it - scanned with malwarebytes - killed the threats found - updated all drivers - rescan with malwarebytes.

I'm going to try fiddling with my laptop for a few days with my drivers updated and see if it solved the problem :)

I have this exact same problem. I've made sure my drivers are up to date. I read somewhere that the latest drivers however, are quite poor and reverting to an older version available for windows 8 is the best solution...haven't tried it yet..
