I had the same problem with the black screen, and was nearly ready to throw in the towel and just reformat my laptop. But, I happen along this thread, and I took the advice of "Mizatt!" He or she has figured it out. For whatever reason, the brightness had dimmed itself! I just used the fn + f6 keys and the screen came back! I can't thank you enough Mizatt! I recommend everyone try this.
