Sorry it's a long one!

Hi everyone, new here although I've been doing quite a bit of reading lately. My question is about allocating files/files location. I currently have a Lenovo y510p that was sent our for repairs. While waiting I'd like to upgrade from the current 24gb of SSD memory that comes with my laptop to a bit larger 128gb (big enough). Once I do this my GOAL would be to store my OS, chrome, and probably little else on the solid state. My question is how/is it possible to save everything else on my 1TB hard drive so as to not take much space on the SSD. This is important to me because as a student I have many decent sized programs (Matlab/solid works) as well as some games. If it is even possible to save stuff like user, ' program files ' and ' program files (x86) ' on my D drive (OS being on C) that they would not load to quick, but I am not worried about that. Also I am aware that I cannot purchase MSATA for this laptop, but I need to purchase 42 mm NGFF.
Also I am not worried about losing any programs as the first thing I will be doing is installing a clean windows 8.1 as soon as I get it to rid off all that bloat ware.
Thanks, I know its long,
Chris

Great thanks, so when installing something such as games or matlab, does it mean that I have to do the process above the entire 'Programs' file that I see when clicking on C drive or just the sub folder in it that says 'games'.
Thanks!

For any applications, I have a top level folder over on my HDD - "MyProgs". CHoose that as the destination.
Games, esp Steam...you can designate multiple install locations. New game, and it asks where it should go.
