If you're running windows, try going to power management and change the brightness settings.

If your laptop is turning off when you unplug it, you need to get a new battery.

Had same problem on my G780. Solution was to go to Control Panel, search 'Power'. Choose 'power plan'. Click on 'Balanced' or whatever battery setting is. Adjust slider for 'on battery'. Probably a quicker way but it worked for me, although no idea how setting got changed in the first place!
