ASUS VivoBook S551 15.6" vs Toshiba Satellite P50-T 15.6"

Hi there, I've been looking around for a new laptop, one that can run AutoCAD, and some games I have(BeamNG, Total War II, etc) I've found two computers that seem to be of good specs, but I'm not a computer guy. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if I'd be best to get the ASUS, or if the Toshiba would be better for my money. I'm thinking the Toshiba is better for my money, but any help is appreciated!

you are comparing the wrong models. asus one is designed for more battery backup and looks. while the toshiba one targeting the entertainment/mid level gaming.

Even they target different audience the performance of them almost similar.

CPU power of toshibha(HQ cpu) is more compared to asus(U cpu). but i dont think you will notice the difference by the time cpu reaches to it max power other hardware like medicore gpu and HDD will pull them back. and dont forget about heat and fan noise.

personally ill choose asus over toshiba in cpu category.

The gpus are no different from each other so its a tie.

the display of Toshiba is fullHD while asus one HD

Asus has 4500mah battery while toshiba has 3000mah battery. so with U series cpu asus will give more battery backup.

They pretty much justifies their price, unless you can tell me what you want do with your laptop i cant tell you which is better for you.

I'm not sure what you mean by I'm comparing the wrong models? I know neither is a spectacular computer in any way, I don't have the kind of money sadly. All I wish to do with this computer is say medium level gaming, I'm not a crazy gamer nor do I need games to look spectacular. There's also a chance I'd be using AutoCAD on it for school, but nothing too crazy and advanced. I'm also not too worried about screen displays, just HD is good enough for me. Of course I would search the web and such, but I think all that is given as it is a lap top.

I could never find much comparing the two graphic cards, and the fact that the Toshiba had double the ram, and some better processor specs, I just didn't know how much better it actually was, if it was the $200 better, or if I'd rarely notice the difference.

There is no noticeable difference , infact asus one will give more battery backup.

since you are in 1000-1200$ price range, i recommend you to consider buying lenovo y50.

Alrighty, thank you very much. I believe I read somewhere that you cannot put more ram in the ASUS model, but it/I could be wrong, however I'm not worried about the ram all that much, my current laptop is 100% worse than it haha..

Yes sometimes they tend to give 2X4gb configuration rather than 1X8gb. which makes the upgrade difficult. And i think 8GB is more than enough for any kind of tasks

Since AutoCad really only requires one thread, the Asus would be fine, and it is a hyperthreaded core, so it will run most games. The GPU's are pretty much the same. 8GB of ram would probably be plenty, unless you are going to be doing lots of things at once. The Asus also has better battery, but the Toshiba is thinner. The main disadvantage the Asus has is a plain old HD screen, instead of Full HD. If you are intending to be stationary, though, $200 dollars could buy a nice 22" 1080p monitor. It all comes down to your uses, but I would recommend the Asus.

Thank you, the full HD screen isn't really worth the $200 to me, I like nice things but as a college student I can't get too greedy, or else I'll end u looking at $2,000 computer haha... I plan on taking out between home and school, so a screen so a separate screen wouldn't do me much good.

It depends on how detailed the models are in the autocad. If they are simple then go for the asus as the gt 840m is enough for it and most games should run. Only get the toshiba if more graphics power is needed.
