RCA @ back of receiver, cut rca off other end hook into speaker, will this work???

Most receivers that use RCA jacks are outputting line level signals on those ports. They are typically used for interconnecting components like tape or CD players rather than speakers. Speaker outputs are usually large terminals that are red and black so that you can connect large gauge wire since speakers are driven more by current than voltage.
