No it is not as good as those other brands, HP is typically the cheapest lowest quality brand from what I have seen.
That said, all companies make good products and bad products. So depending on which specific laptop you are talking about it might be good.

N240SE
N247SE
Okay:

In terms of the hardware specs I listed them as above. The N247SE and N240SE are basically the same system with the N247SE being a little better, and these two are much better than the others by a long shot. Will perform much better at gaming and other tasks compared to the others. The next to I labeled as "okay" as they will web browse fine and like work for typing papers but not for gaming.
The last two are just horrible.
Please note, this is just an examination of the hardware inside of the machine. I would advise you look at the reviews on the website you plan to buy it from, Newegg, Amazon, Bestbuy whatever and in addition check a website called notebookcheck.com to see if they have a review of it. They will know a lot more about build quality as they are the ones who actually have the system in hand to examine it.
