I started college on Monday and since the subjects which I have taken are mostly theory based note taking subjects, it was recommend to bring a laptop into college to speed up taking notes in class. I currently have a Dell Inspiron 1545 but is 4 years old, bulky and too heavy to carry around all day. Since I don't want to pay £300 for a Windows laptop, I looked at chromebooks instead. I know they are not very powerful and can only do very basic tasks but they are considerably cheaper than a Windows laptop. Also we have free access to the college wi-fi so that won't be a problem. I was looking at this one (know its refurbished but that doesn't bother me). Are chromebooks OK just for note taking and web browsing or is it better to get a Windows laptop?

Thanks for the website. Reading over that, it seems even more tempting to get a chromebook. Since we have access to Office 365 Online which includes every Microsoft office program, I won't have to use Google Docs. Is the Acer Chromebook that I was looking at a good laptop?

Well it is only a 16GB capacity. I would might as well get an iPad in my opinion. So you may want to carry span external hard drive or USB to store some information on it.

But it seems to be a great laptop if it s not for the limited space like what the link I listed said. ;)

Not particularly worried about the mediocre, will probably just sync it to my Onedrive account and then transfer it onto my desktop. Will probably get a chromebook then if there are only those small problems which I can get round. Was looking to get an Ipad however they are considerably more expensive that a chromebook. Thanks for your help
