First I just want to warn that I know very little about sound cards and even what different types are available. I just ordered new a new Sennheiser headset so I figured it would be good to look into my laptops sound card. I see you can get some that fit into the slot on the side. Is it possible to get one that I can permanently leave in the slot that says dsd/mmc/ms?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007XRZ08/ref=pe_385040_30332... is that suitable?

Thanks

The laptop has 16gb Corsair ram
4GB Radeon 8970M PU
I7 CPU

Clevo P177SM

No need for anything external. Pretty much all computers have come with pretty good built in audio for quite a few years now.

Your laptop has already a soundcard or it will not play any sound at all, which you heard already.
You must somehow convert the digital information to analog and an amplifier than speakers (earphones/headphones are also speakers) than you can hear the sound using your ears.
Software alone can not reproduce sound which you can hear.

It is possible to install external sound card e.g. USB sound card. But, It is not really necessary unless you are an audio freak.
