Your audio setup?

Hi guys,

My english isn't the best, sorry =)
I recently got my new pc, and i was wondering about what i should do with my audio.
I always use my headphones, just plug them analog in my pc, just haven't got a mic yet.
What are you guys using? just plug your headphones analog in your pc and your 50 dollar mic analog in your pc as well? Or are you guys using an external amp for your mic and headphones?
I don't know what i should do for myself. I do a lot of talking, music listening and gaming.

I used to have my PC hooked up to my 5.1 surround home theater system. While the audio quality was great, my PC isn't in the best position related to the speakers so it didn't sound the best. I still have that system, but its for movie watching only. The sound on my PC now is done with the logitech Z5300 5.1 system, with headphones employed most of the time. (There is a jack on the control pod on the Z5300.) Microphone is plugged into the motherboard. I don't like USB audio equipment so I don't use them. 3.5mm jacks only.

I was just looking on the web, and should the upgrade to something like the Creative SOUND BLASTER X-FI SURROUND 5.1 PRO for your headphone and mic use on your pc be a good upgrade?

I can't find a good headphone/mic setup. They keep breaking on me, and I'm not rough with my equipment. My last attempt was a Corsair unit which I sent back for RMA after only a few months, only to have the replacement fail as well. (About a month for that one. Not impressed with Corsairs headphones.) I currently have the mic sitting on my desk and using the mic from it. It works pretty well as a mic, but the headphones no longer work correctly. After trying all kinds of headphones I'm actually using a set that I picked up from Radio Shack for $20. Not as "bassy" as I'd like, but they have worked for a long time now. They just don't have a mic.

I have the creative fatal1ty headset and soundblaster z soundcard. the headset is great for the money, can produce a good amount of bass and is very clear. The build quality is good also, have had them 2-3 years without issue. I used to run onboard sound but these headphones can be driven a lot louder by the sbz which has a built in headphone amp. I also run the logitech x230 speakers. Recently tried the logitech z623's (THX certified) as an upgrade....i was very unimpressed, turns out THX certification is a joke. They were louder, sure, but they sounded like crap. Satellites sound like tink cans and the sub was boomy, even after playing around with EQ settings. the x230's have a much more balanced sound. So i sent the z623's back to the store and got my money back. Next set of speakers i will be looking at Microlab, although theyre a chinese brand i think, they look to be much more refined, more closer to "hi-fi" spec than other PC speakers.
