Okay so I had a recent power surge that killed my desktop PC :( I luckily just purchased a Lenovo Y40 laptop that has two graphics cards (Intel HD Graphics and an AMD R9 M275)

I can get it to run with great FPS on Dota 2 when using the laptop screen, but when I hook it up to my monitor I cant figure out how to force it to run games on the AMD card thats in it. I get 20 FPS when hooked to my monitor so its obviously using the Intel HD graphics. Is the HDMI out port maybe only tied to the Intel chip? thanks!

Solution
I would get the same issue with my Lenovo Y40, (SIDE NOTE: the Lenovo Y40 has a 1920/1080 anti glare display), if you uninstall the Intel graphics driver from your driver manager then the computer will be forced to use the AMD chip. at first the computer will seem like it is slower, give it 2-7 days and it should run at its normal speed.

More than likely the change in fps is due to a change in resolution, your laptop monitor is probably 1366x786 where as your monitor is probably 1920x1080 which requires more graphics power to run.

Both my monitor and laptop are 1080p, and I already changed my global switchable graphics settings to maximize performance. Could it be that my HDMI out port is only tied to Intel graphics? I have tried multiple times, I even went on my monitor first... 20 fps, I unplugged it and started another game, 60 fps.

Not seeing any other outputs, pretty sure this is the exact computer I got for my brother so I hope it isn't configured that way.

Only thing I found online was to right click on the application and select run with high GPU performance. I would think that just duplicates what CCC is supposed to do.

I believe it's caused by closing the lid oddly enough, it's intel dtpf technology? It cuts the processor and other things in half when the lid is closed.... And there's no bios option to disable it on my machine.

Yeah eximo I agree, docking stations are super popular. In the defense of at least my laptop, the exhaust is located in the space between my hinge, so it's closed shut when the laptop is closed, could overheat
