Needing a new laptop because my current one has a broken motherboard. The specs of the current laptop is:
i7-2670QM
6GB RAM
Nvidia GT 540M
256GB SSD
I 100% need a processor that is quad core and better than this i7, no cutting corners here. Dual cores with HT will not cut it. This knocks out the U series and the i5 HM/HQ series. Basically I need an i7 HM/HQ or AMD equivalent. A lot of productivity applications and emulators I use require such high processing power. Graphics are secondary for gaming as long as they are better than the 540M as well.
I have a budget of $800 for the laptop before tax, but including shipping. This so far is what I've found that will work, but I wanted to know if anyone was aware of any other very good student discounts or deals that will bring more laptops like this into my price range? The typical stops (newegg, amazon) have come up empty. Here's the specs on the one I found, which comes to $779 before tax:
• 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
• Windows 8.1 64
• 14.0" HD+ Glossy LED Backlit with integrated camera (1600x900)
• NVIDIA GeForce GT755M GDDR5 2GB
• 8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz
• 1TB 5400 RPM - irrelevant, I'll be putting in that SSD from my current laptop.
• 6 Cell 72 Watt Hour Lithium-Ion
Is there anywhere I can get this or something better for the same price, or faster, or is this about as good as it gets?
