im installing a sony marine radio the face does not turn on but the radio excepts cd s what to do//

Well you didn't list the model# so someone could look up the wiring diagram but I suspect the wire that needs power for the lighting to function was not connected.

they had yellow connected to orange cd worked... but face did not light up and radio did not work????

I dont find a sony mdx50 model but typically:

yellow is continious 12v.
orange (lighting) and red (switched 12v) get connected to switched 12v line which is on/off with the key.

So it looks like you just need to hook up the red wire too.
