Mostly audio but I don't want my friends eardrum to burst when I try to talk to them, also I want the mic to not pick up my fan, cat ext. however I was woundering if 7.1 surround sound is any good or if it's one of those marketing schems for ppl that don't know about headphones

Only $50 and the best you can get for the price and can compare to other headphone 3x the price:

http://www.samsontech.com/samson/products/headphones/sr-series/sr850/

You will need a separate mic however.

http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1409891620&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=zalman+mic

7.1 is mostly a gimmick for headphones since it requires seven separate speakers in different positions, and most headphones only have two drivers, one driver per side.

Yep, it clips on to the headphones. People have used it for music and gaming and have said it works great for both.

If you're going with that mic I'd suggest to to this cheap mod since it will greatly help to position the mic on your headphones:

They have been used for gaming as well. This head fi user used it for playing Counter Strike: Source and he said these headphones were great for positional cues and helped him locate the enemy players. Here's his review
