Hi all, thank you for any recommendations you can provide on a replacement laptop.

1. What is your budget?
Trying to stay under $1,000.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Currently working on a 17.3", which is slightly too large for comfort. I think a 13-15" would be better.

3. What screen resolution do you want?
No preference.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Desktop replacement.

5. How much battery life do you need?
4 hours would suffice

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
No, or at least nothing past a flash version of Tetris.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
This is primarily for database and spreadsheet work, some light weight HTML/WYSIWYG editing and word processing.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
500GB

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
No preference.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
3-4 years.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
I need a DVD reader/writer.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
No preference.

13. What country do you live in?
USA

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
This laptop will replace one that I was given to work with for a state education organization. The contents (files, databases and archives) were passed on to me and eventually I'll pass them on to the person who takes the position after me. It sits in my home office where I work with it for 11 months of the year and then we have one month of heavy travel and use during convention season.

Again, thanks for any help.

Hey,

I usually recommend this laptop to both gamers and power users (http://www.amazon.com/N550JK-DS71T-Full-HD-Touchscreen-Laptop-Aluminum-Body/dp/B00IAA5BSS/ref=psdc1_t1_B00COQ4ETG_B00IAA5BSS).

It's a powerful desktop replacement with a great price point. It doesn't seem like you need a powerful CPU or GPU, but this will easily handle all your tasks, multi-tasking, rendering, and etc. It also has a DVD reader/writer and a 1TB HDD.
