I'm currently torn between two brands of HP laptops that are currently on sale at Costco. They are both in the Envy 15t series but have different specs. Also their prices have a difference of $100. Both laptops have i7 4700 series processors. The cheaper of the laptops can be found here. It has 1080p resolution but does not have a graphics card. The more expensive one, which is $799.99, can be found here. This one has a decent dedicated graphics and comes with Windows 7 (which I like better than 8), but doesn't have a DVD reader but I can easily buy one separately. It also has 3GB less RAM than the $699.99 laptop. The resolution is also inferior to the 1080p that it offers. I will be going to college where I plan on using my laptop for work, video editing, programming, and a bit of gaming. My question is which of these will offer the best performance regardless of price?

If you're going to game, you'll want the model with the GPU. You can upgrade the RAM easily enough. For the resolution, go to Best Buy or look at friends' laptops and see if the lower resolution is a deal-killer.

I'd recommend taking a look at other sources before you buy either. Try xoticpc.com or sager.com - I think you'll find laptops in the same price range or not much more that give you more bang for the buck.
