I'd like to know if I can hook up my Sony amp Yamaha tower speakers with a Yamaha powered subwoofer. Speakers are 100 watts minimum and maximum inputand the sub woofer is the same. The amplifier is 210 Watts multichannel. Can this work without damaging any of the units? please help

Solution
If the amp is surround sound then connect the sub to the sub out with interconnect cable. If connected with speaker wire the self powered subwoofer would be fine as it has a very high input impedance and does not use any power from the receiver.
The issue is the 6 ohm tower speakers. There is no way to tell ahead of time if the receiver will shut down. If you try it you might damage the receiver. You could wire a 2 ohm resistor in series with the plus speaker lead to each speaker to be safe.
