I bought an HP2000 3yrs ago and then bought another one last x-mas. My older laptop wifii runs fast, 40-50speed, or normal, the one I recently bought wifi runs at 4-6 speed. They both have the same wifi hardware and driver. Can someone advise why one is so much faster and how to fix it?

Laptops usually have WLAN modules installed. Therefore, if you have two identical laptops, you are able to exchange the WLAN hardware to check it. You need to open the according cover on the laptop, usually on the bottom side, carefully remove the usually 2 or 3 antennas with the small golden U-FL plugs and then take the module out. If you notice there that the antennas were not plugged correctly on the module which is slow then you found the problem already.

By the way speed is measured in Bits/s or Bytes/s, not "x"-fold.

If after swapping modules performance is the same and the problem stays with the laptop, not the module, then i assume that you have a software problem.

The "bad" module in the "good" laptop then shows that the "bad" module is in fact good.
If the problem stays with the module, you most likely have a hardware problem with the module and i suggest you exchange it.
If the "bad" module in the "good" laptop remains bad then it is really bad.

Needless to say that you have to test both laptops in exactly the same location and position for comparison.

Hope this helps.
