I know how to put component of a laptop together but I am very bad at knowing what products to buy and where to get them. So I have a few questions I would like to ask and feel free to include any insight you might have:

1) Is it possible to buy the laptop casing (palm rest, lcd, bottom plastics) and find a aftermarket motherboard that fits in it? Basically I want to buy something like a hp dv-6000 off ebay and find a new style motherboard that fits.

2) Can you get a cheap laptop casing (palm rest, lcd, bottom plastics) cheaply off ebay?

3) is there a standard for building laptops (like ATX)?

sadly there is no standard for laptops, each one I made different with different mounting holes, where power buttons are, HDD are located..... and so on. that's not even covering how to get a batter to plug into a board that was not produced for the case you're looking out.

In short it very hard to build your own laptop unless you just throw it in a shoe box.
