no sound on my acer

Everything shows okay when I go to sound it shows that it is working properly. I have no sound on Acer or on external speakers. When I hook external speakers up it has static that you hear until they are all plugged in all the way. No new os system has been installed. But when rebooting the windows start up sound does sound either!
