Hi guys, I wanted to discuss about wanting to buy a laptop for college/university.
Overall i want a laptop that is between 400 to 700 dollars. The laptop will mainly be for studying but I do play a number of games. So i want help choosing a laptop, the most notable game I'm preparing for is FIFA 15, here are the specs (http://help.ea.com/ca/article/fifa-15-pc-minimum-requirements/) It doesn't have to meet maximum requirements, more like in the middle. Here are some I was looking at

The i5-4200u has a base speed of 1.6GHz. However, with Turbo Boost (automatic overclock) allows the CPU to go up to 2.6GHz when one core is used and about 2.4GHz when both cores are used. Compared to AMD APUs, Intel CPUs are generally around at least 33% more powerful than AMD APUs. Therefore, at 2.4GHz it is at least equal to an AMD APU running at 3.1GHz. The Intel HD 4400 is also much more powerful than the Radeon HD 8450g in the Thinkpad Edge which has the AMD A6-5350M APU.

Ok, this is an ONLINE forum. These members are from all over the world. It's pretty doubtful that anybody here knows what stores are available to you locally in Canada and especially in your specific city or town. However, if you can tell us what locality you live in, we can perhaps try to find something that would be available to you from a local store.

FIFA 15, in fact the entire FIFA series is pretty easy to run on any moderately priced laptop that is not a "value laptop" or a netbook.

Basically any laptop with an Intel HD 4400 or Intel HD 4600 should be capable of running FIFA 15. They can run FIFA 14 pretty well at 1366x768 resolution especially the Intel HD 4600 which is the more powerful of the two. But laptops with that integrated graphics core will likely be above your budget unless you can find a deal online.

Since you prefer to buy the laptop from a store, then consider purchasing the follow 15.6" Acer laptop with the i5-4200u CPU which has the Intel HD 4400 graphics core.

Order it online, then pick it up from the store. If you cannot order it online (because you do not have a credit card or other reason) then try going to Best Buy and ask them if they can reserve one for you that will be shipped to the store. You might be required to purchase it first before they will ship to the store so that you can pick it up.

Do they even have Best buy in Canada?

The Acer Aspire has a quad core A10-5757m APU. While it can be argued that it is more powerful than the dual core i5-4200u, that only applies if whatever programs or games you plan on using can make use of all 4 core. When only one or two are used the Intel Core i5-4200u is certainly more powerful. FIFA 15 will not be using more than 2 cores. However, the Radeon HD 8650g is certainly more powerful than the Intel HD 4400. Before AMD released the Kaveri generation APU recently, the Radeon HD 8650g was the most powerful integrated graphics core available.

The Acer Aspire V5-552P-X440 will give you better game performance than the Acer Aspire E1, but it also cost $150 CAD more. You can click the below link for game benchmarks; scroll down. Click "Compare" to see how the Radeon HD 8650g compares to other graphic cores.

Below is a link to FIFA 14 played on the Intel HD 4400. Note that because the uploader is recording the video while playing the performance will not be as good playing the game without recording.

If spending $700 for the Acer Aspire V5-552P-X440 is not a big deal, then go ahead buy it. Overall, it is a better laptop for games.
