Solution

Buy the 2 x 4G sticks. Install and proceed.
Sell the existing 2 x 2GB. Money partially recovered.

Currently, you appear to have 2 x 2GB sticks. = 4GB
The get 8GB, you need to buy 2 x 4GB sticks of whatever RAM is applicable to that motherboard, and replace the existing 2 x 2GB.

Not necessarily, for a couple of reasons:
Can the motherboard slots handle more than 4GB each?
RAM sticks should be installed in matching pairs. A 2GB and 6GB might work, or might not work well.

Hi, if you have 4GB RAM and you have 2 slots, with the slot 0 unused, then you can buy an additional 4GB RAM to have the maximum of 8GB.
