I'm looking to buy a laptop and would like to be able to play my steam games on it, but hope to not buy something that is way too bulky and heavy or has poor battery life. I'm hoping to stay in a sub-$1k budget and handle older modern games at 1080p with a decent framerate. .I don't care about bumping up settings to high or ultra, but was wondering if someone could recommend a laptop that can fit these specifications.

tl;dr
Cheap, light laptop with decent battery life
1080p/30fps
low settings

If you don't really mind about the screen (there have been complains about it) the Lenovo Y40 (or the Y50 which is 99$ over your budget) is the more reasonable way to go. The Y50 should play everything you throw at it at high settings (gtx 860m) and it's gpu is maxwell version which consumes very little battery power. There's no CD ROM and it's 5lb which is probably as lightweight as it gets with an 860m and an i7 inside a machine. I would also suggest you install an SSD whenever you get the chance in the future, or atleast a 7200rpm HDD. Hope I helped!
