Looking for a good gaming laptop with decent speakers that is relatively light 5-6lbsish. Any recommendations? I don't want/care for touch screen technology.

I'm a student so don't want to carry around a 9lb alienware laptop.

HP ENVY 15t-j100 - $729.99

2.4GHz Intel Core i7-4700HQ, Nvidia 740M, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, under 5 lbs, 15.6" 1366x768 screen.

You can upgrade the screen to 1920x1080 if you want. I wouldn't bother with that with a low-mid range graphics card and a 15.6" screen. Besides that, the hardware in this is overall higher performance than the MSI. The 740M and 840M should not have hugely different results.

Ghost is a bit out of his price range.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152570 is another offering from MSI for $849, more in line with the price you're looking for.

2.5GHz Intel Core i5-4200M, Nvidia 840M, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, ~6 lbs, 15.6" 1920x1080 max res screen.

840M isn't the most amazing card, but it will let you manage low to medium settings on new games and high settings on older ones. If you are willing to extend your budget you could manage an 850M or 860M that would allow you to push the graphics settings a bit higher. Higher heat and lower battery life come into play with more powerful graphics, though, especially for compact laptops.
