Hi,

I'm familiar with building computers, and have a pretty good desktop. However, I'm looking for a laptop too. It'd be used for Microsoft Office, web, movies (mainly streamed) and probably the most I'd ever game on it would be a bit of emulation.

I have an old laptop currently with no OS, but it's a little slow now. I have taken it apart and seems fairly easily upgradeable. I'm just wondering if I should whack a new processor and OS in an old laptop or buy a completely new one?

Thanks!

Edit: I forgot to mention, the socket on the motherboard on my laptop is lga1156. I'm not sure if processors to fit it are too outdated by now?

I use a HP 2000 it has an Intel i3 and great graphics. I use it for what you are planning on doing and its rather cheap.

I would probably just get a new one since it isnt too expensive and you will be getting more up to date hardware so if you do any upgrades it wont be a pain. Also it would save time and maybe money depending on the OS you choose since just buying one it will be already installed.

No perhaps not, but surely there is in as much as you can put in new components with the same motherboard?

Are there any particular ones you guys would recommend for what I'm looking to do? Hopefully without spending too much haha!

Don't seem to be able to buy them in the UK, but looking at the HP website there's plenty of similar models available! Thank you.

Just about the only things you can upgrade on any given laptop are the primary storage drive and the RAM. Everything else is proprietary and made to work on that laptop only. What's your budget and what store are you buying from?

Ah I didn't know that, thank you.

Well I'm looking for under £350 if possible, purely because it doesn't need an i5 or equivalent or too high a spec. As long as it doesn't slow up easily that's all that matters to me.
