Does anyone have a personal favorite cloning software to clone my data from my HDD over to my SSD, this is for a laptop btw. I'm going to replace the HDD with an SSD and well I'm new to this cloning stuff so what software should I exactly use and I would prefer for it to be free of course.

EaseUS Todo Backup Free or Clonezilla are both free and work well. I have used them and they work well, but my personal favorite is an old $ program Ghost 15 just because I have used it forever.

Backup your data first and also make a system repair disc with one DVD or CD (just type "system repair disc" in the start button search and use the wizard that shows up) as it may be needed to repair the SRP after the clone. It is an automatic repair and you just leave the disk in while you boot from the new SSD after the clone.

Well what I did was bought SSD with a kit. What that means it came with an external USB case and Acronis True Image cloning software. I used it twice. I bought an Acer laptop 3 years ago and purchased the 120 GB Kit and it was a breeze. I added apps to the 750 gb HD and then cloned it (about 70 GB). I then stuck the SSD drive in the drive 1 bay and the moved the HD to the second bay and it booted in around 20 seconds. The them purchased a 240 GB SSD and cloned the SSD. I then cloned the 750 GB to a 1 TB HD. Now when I cloned the 750 drive it made a partitian of 750 GB. SO I downloaded a partitian manger and extended the size to 1 TB fro 750 gb.

True Image has a feature that can be selected that will automatically expand your target drive to the full size of the new destination drive so that you don't need to use a separate partition manager to use the space. True Image is a very good program, but only free with specific drive purchases that include a transfer kit.
