how do i insert disk into my new inspiron 15 3531

Have you tried just pushing in on the slot? Most laptops now are simply spring loaded to spring open with a push on the slot cover.
If not, and this this is your laptop: http

...there should be a tiny square that is the release button on the slot.

Where is this 'Release Button'? I looked around my entire laptop and it isnt there, Ive also tried pushing it in but nothing happend. I have a Dell Inspiron 3531 Windows 8, it has the disc tray but it wont open.

Are you sure it has an optical drive? Dell has been selling their Inspirons w/o an optical drive.

Your new Dell Inspiron 3531 doesnt have a disk drive at all! The "tray" you see is just a filler, you can purchase an add-on optical drive to install there by removing one screw, sliding that plastic piece out and sliding in the drive.

damn, i also just got a dell inspiron 3531 for christmas, i was there when it was purchased and the salesman failed to mention that it didn't come with an optical drive, honestly, i would have bought the laptop anyway, its a great computer, but it really urks me that the salesman just skipped over mentioning this rather important detail

CD/DVD drives are used so rarely anymore, it's no big loss. Pick up a USB portable one when you see one on sale. I just got one of these when it was on sale for half the current price: http/www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106104

Bought this quickly for the office, Dell is the laptop of the workplace etc etc etc... Got a pop up asking if I wanna backup the Windows and files to DVD? So I thought yep! Lets do this!
Seems like such as stupid thing but I literally could not find the eject button, had this thing in the spotlight turning it upside down, pressing all the buttons. Almost took the battery out. Are laptops so advance now you need to find an app for the eject option?
Nope. Dell just doesn't give you one. I have a laptop and cant even put a disk in it. Wow. Just wow. FML
