Mini-ITX laptop parts compatibility

Solution

Ah, that kind of does suck! Not only are there not a lot of mini-ITX boards with SO-DIMM banks, but your RAM is last generation. You'll have to shop around for a fairly old board that supports DDR2 memory on top of the limited production of a board with SO-DIMM support. eBay is probably going to be one of your best resources.

Mobile CPUs won't work outside of a case - laptop hardware is made for that laptop and that laptop only. Same with laptop GPUs - they're soldered into the motherboard and won't work in a new motherboard. Just about the only part you'll be able to reuse is the hard drive but even then unless it's not SATA-III or SATA-6 it won't work with a new build.

I know what you're saying, but I wasn't asking for a board that will be compatible with my current CPU and GPU, I only mentioned those so people could understand what embedded solution could be better than those i already have.

I only would like to re-use the HDD and RAM, if possible.

You can definitely reuse the HD for sure, the RAM you won't since SODIMMs are made for laptops and won't work with a motherboard that is made for desktop DIMMs.

But there are Mini ITX boards with SO-DIMM's though?

I'd just buy new RAM. I know it's not necessarily as cheap as it used to be, but your time and effort that you'd spend trying to salvage such an old piece of equipment ain't worth it if you ask me. Plus having such old RAM on a new build would slow it to a crawl. If I were building a new PC from scratch I would make sure all my components are up to date.

If I wasn't a 17 year old kid, instead living on my own with a solid job I wouldn't hesitate about buying completely new parts hahaha, it's just that money is tight nowadays.. I would also most probably look into a much higher end full sized pc board instead of the mini-ITX form factor. I appreciate the comments though :)
