Hi guys, so on my journey to mounting an SSD on my GT70 1461US Dominator Pro, I've come across a procedure and I want to have checked by the wonderful people of the Tom's Hardward community before I implement it:

1. Take out HDD
2. Install SSD where the HDD was
3. Open up Bios and set to AHCI
4. Install Windows 7
5. Remount HDD in secondary bay and format it

Some issues that I'm worried about but I don't know how to solve would be:
1. Updating Bios
2. Applying patch to AHCI
3. Apply patch for SSD to run at SATA3

Any inputs and opinions would be great!

Looks like you have all the steps correct.

Is there a reason you are updating the bios? There shouldn't be a 'patch' for AHCI, you just set the SATA mode when in the bios, and that's if it isn't already set to AHCI. No patch for running SSD at SATA3, if the SATA port is rated at 6GB/s that's how fast it is, no software patches necessary.

Thanks for your fast reply guys!
@burdenbound - the 3 steps that I've mentioned were problems I've seen on other forums. As you said, the first 2 should not apply to me but im slightly worried about the third one. The problem is that even though the bay is SATA 3, there were complaints of it only running at SATA 2. Is this a problem that I need to address for the newer model of the GT70 or do I not need to worry?
