So my seagate 750gb hard drive was about to fail so I decided to completely wipe it out . I replaced it with my new toshiba q series 128GB SSD . I replaced the driver, turned it on, and I get an error message saying "no boot drive detected" there was nothing on the ssd so I was wondering if I could install windows 7 on the ssd but sadly that didn't work. i went into the bios and i can see that my toshiba ssd is being read, but still, no bootable disk. Any ideas ? i feel like i need an external CD drive to install windows 7 again.

I'm not familiar with that Alienware but you would need a usb flash drive or an optical drive to reinstall windows with.
Booting the dvd install disjk is as easy as pressing the funtion key that corresponds to "Select boot device" and then choosing the dvd drive.
Naturally if the dvd drive is a usb one you will need to select the usb drie as the boot drive.

Flash drives need to be made bootable first and then have the win7 install copied to them. A decent tutorial is here:

4gb flashdrive is plenty big enough.

you can get the win7 iso from microsofts digital river site. You'll have to google for it, I cant get there from here.
If your win7 key is an OEM license then it wont work the the digital river iso's unfortunately.

I've kinda tried that already . it says disk read error press any key to continue. I did and it goes through the same cycle . it's an alienware m11x r3. Pretty old. GT540m, Intel i5 2467m dual core CPU. I feel like I need an external CD drive to install it.
