I am looking at two Laptops both at $1000 New Zealand.
One is an Asus X550LN-XX075H and the other a HP 15-G026AU. The Asus has an Intel i5 1.6ghz Dual core up to 2.6ghz turbo and a 2GB dedicated graphics. The HP has an AMD A6-6310M but an onboard Radeo R4 Grpahics.

I will be using the computer mostly for word documentation and internet browsing but I also want to use it for photoshop and occasionally I may want to watch movies.

What is the better buy for these type of activities and could you explain why - e.g processor speeds.

Thanks

For word documentation and internet browsing almost any laptop would work. Now, to be frank and straight forward, the Asus is the better of the two. It has a good processor but most importantly, it has a dedicated graphics card while the HP 15-g026au Notebook PC has integrated graphics. The nVidia GT840 2 GB Graphics which will be vital in running especially photoshop. The Asus also has a bigger hard drive which is another plus on why you should chose it <<It has doubled times the Hp's>>.This means that you will have more storage space to store your documents, movies, photos and other projects from probably photoshop.

The Asus is by far the better laptop. the processor is faster and uses less energy, giving you longer battery life. Due to it's better cache and higher IPC and lower power use, that alone should be a deciding factor. For graphical use, the dedicated GPU / Nvidia 840 will perform better than the A6 APU graphics. The APU is severely limited by the very low speed single channel memory configuration.

Other points that are better on the Asus:
Bigger hard drive
Possibly better WiFi if it is a 2x2 radio.
More USB 3.0 ports
More video outputs

Points for HP:
Card reader

If you could provide the resolution of the HP screen, that would help as well. For photoshop and movies, higher resolution/more useable workspace is always a plus, so that could be another reasonable deciding factor.

Enjoy your new Laptop and what you will use it for.
Thanks for using Tom's Hardware.

Tom I am thinking of buying the Asus X550LN as well, would I be able to play games ( like Crysis etc) on that laptop?

edit: sorry I realise this is a question instead of an answer, Please delete this for a nub.
