My relative just gave me a Cambridge SoundWorks Model SBS51 multimedia computer speaker
system. But she did not include the AC Adapter, which is 8.0 volt. Can I use any AC Adapter that
provides 8.0 volts, or do I need the one that goes with the sound system?
The speakers I have connected to my compute have an AC Adapter that puts out 9.0 volts.
I am afraid to use it on the speakers my relative gave me, as I am afraid it may damage them and/or my computer.
I would appreciate any help with this problem. I wrote the company but they don't reply.

Solution
Yes you could use an adaptor on the power supply for your current speakers it will almost certainly work, the only problem would be of getting the plug the right size.

Hi
You cannot use just any 8V power supply you need to know how much power the speakers require(in amps or Watts). This should be either on a plate on the back of the speaker or moulded into it somewhere, this should also indicate the polarity of the input plug, with this information you will be able to buy a suitable power supply.

makkem: thank you for your reply. I apologize for a goof, the back of the main speaker says 9 Volts. I looked on both speakers, but there is nothing that mentions the Amperage or Wattage required. I didn't think I could use the 9 Volt AC Adapter on my present speakers, because the jack is not long enough, and it says 9volts plus some amps.
Am I up that famous creek without a paddle now? Could I use a universal Adapter, if the jack is the right size?
