Hello.
Right now I have an Hp laptop. The pc costed 1500$, and I bought it 2 years ago. I really need a new one, because there are too many problems with this one. it has crashed many times, the screen just stopped working lately, and worst of all, the fan is so horrible, that if I do anything, it starts running like crazy, and it gets so noisy, I have to shut it down in the school (the insurance won’t do anything because that’s just how it is). I don't want to bother with it anymore, so I have decided to buy a new one, but the big question is which one?

The criteria are simple. It has to work at school, play games without lag (it doesn't have to be battlefield on ultra, but it has to be fine (atm. I play league of legends on low, so my standards are low)). It has to work for more than 2 years, and most important, I really don't want to shut down my pc in school all the time, because of a noisy fan.
I am willing to spend up to 2500$.

I have been looking at the razer blade ultra thin, and the alienware 14 inch, but because I know nothing about computers, I could use some help.

Thanks in advantage :)

Sound and cooling, a 17" asus G750. Its heavy and bigger, but great battery, super quiet cooling. Three models, id suggest the cheapest at $1200, and that's the pure Maxwell 860m. You'll gain maximum battery even while using the NVidia card for gaming, and will play most games at high no problems.

If you want slim and light, the msi gs ghost. I'd personally do the gs 60 with 3k screen. 15" 4lbs, 870m. But that will run warmer so louder fans. You can get the 860m and no 3k screen, drop price, but battery will be lower than the asus but should get 4 hours light work. And super light, exceptional laptop.

Both those are lower specs, but great performance still. If you want max, i'd suggest the msi gt70 890 or higher with the 4810 i7, and gtx 880m. This will run warm, loud, and heavy. Otherwise the asus has the 880m but at that $2500 max price limit, will run cooler and quieter. But honestly compared to the 860m, which can play high settings and on a 17" laptop screen I cant tell a difference, the 880m is a beast yes but will suck battery and costs over twice as much. Buy the 860m, throw in a ssd, spend less than $1500 and get a great laptop with great battery. Otherwise msi ghost is portability yet gaming notebook, all sorts of awesomeness.

Well first just to let you know even if the laptop was working perfectly you wouldn't get half the value because of the age most of the time. Second as it isn't working (though it sounds like it just needs a good servicing to clean out the dust and stuff) that makes it even less 'worth'. So what do you plan to do with it?

Since you have a constant LARGE sum of cash to just toss around, personally I would have suggested taking this laptop to a Mom and Pop insured IT shop and ask they give it a once over. Shouldn't cost more then a couple hundred, unless of course you really are "DONE" with that laptop (which I understand completely).

Hi tom.
I know i won't get anything for the old pc, but right now i just want a better working pc. i have had it cleaned several times, but it is still too bad, and with all the other problems i have had with it, i just want a new one. i dont know what i want to do with it, but I will probably just keep it as a backup.

I really don't want anything to do with it, and im just looking for a new one, that is better and can play games much easyer. i know it sounds like a waste of money, but as long as the money are self earned, and this pc has traumatised me, i really want a new one :)

Hi Dblkk

thank you for the different choises :)
I will look closer to the Asus 860m, due to the cooling. Right now the thing that matters the most is the cooling (a bit traumatised after a lot of annoying airplane noises from my other pc on class), so it sounds like a great idea, thank you very much :)

the newer razor is great, expensive, premium, un-upgradeable at all, and fans will get loud.

the MSI gs ghost, although not premium metal design like razor, is by far better every aspect, and price.

the MSI ghost shouldn't be loud unless your demanding/gaming during class, and size weight is half the Asus.

but best school/gaming laptop, sound/temps is the Asus. its heavy yes, but very solid and you get used to weight really quick

also have to look away from the razor. I live in Denmark, and if i want to buy it here, thanks to the costom duty (i think its called) it will cost more likely 3600$.

i will look at the MSI, thank you very much :)
