Really all I need to know is, does it make a difference when using programs like Autodesk Alias or when rendering with Autodesk Showcase, basically I need to know whether to buy an i5 or an i7 processor.

Thanks

Any sort of content creation benefits greatly from Hyperthreading and the extra cache that an I7 has.

Get a Intel Xeon, 4 cores and hyperthreading but no integrated graphics, cheaper than i7.
