HDMI Audio playback

I have two HDMI leads connected into amp and then one into LG TV. I cant seem to get the audio playback from the amp only TV and have to hook up optical lead back to amp. Its Yamaha amp so surely the sound must be playable with sending back to am from TV?

If both your LG TV and audio system has ARC (audio return channel) then the TV should send audio back to the amp via the single HDMI. It would have to be turned on. If you don't have it in both and have a compatible HDMI cable then you have done it right by using the optical out of the TV.
