Hi my name is Karam. I don't know much about CPU's. It's usually the first thing that comes up when people mention computers. I am interested in playing a game called mabinogi, but I don't know what laptop to buy. Considering the one I have is a 2.2Ghz (O0) dual core which isn't so bad according to CPU-Z. I read up on some of the abbreviations, and I learned a lot, well sub consciously because I've been doing homework for 5 hours :)... So the multi Instruction sounds appealing, and the Multiple Data Extension Sounds great too, and the virtualization technology sounds amazing as well. Over all my CPU isn't doing to bad. But that's not why I'm here. The reason for me being here is to find out if I should use a laptop with Intel CPU or AMD CPU. With integrated graphics I have now, NVidia Quadro 135m 128mb shared(actually reads 1902mb) couldn't run Mabinogi, a fairly average game. I tried overclocking the GPU with Ntune to 500Mhz from the allowed 200Mhz to see a difference in my 64bit system(Just upgraded from 32bit whoo hoo). The memory overclocked to 801Mhz from 667mhz(333Mhz 32bit factory). Considering how hot the laptop is now when it's on, I was expecting medium performance, but I managed to fall short of even that.(cries...) Sometime when playing Mabi I get less than 10FPS. I have a Dell D630 with windows 7. It's a nice computer to have for school work, But I tried watching Game of Thrones with 720p resolution and the frames would get stuck for a long time. First I thought it was because I had compressed all of my files, but I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I dedicated 32bg to virtual memory on my hard disk just because it makes me feel good about what I have, and in hopes to be able to play the game :) I want to be able to play 720p movies and I want to be able to play low spec games like mabinogi( w/45fps minimum). Which Laptop with what components is best for what I want on a budget, and is there hope for upgrading what I have? Because if I can find an answer than I can go to my next step. I would love the help and input. Please post, any input would guide me in the right direction.

Upgrading a laptop is near impossible, especially for someone without a lot of experience building and maintaining PC's. The processor you go with isn't quite as important as your GPU. What is your budget range?

Oh, and take down that 32gb of virtual memory you allocated for your current machine to 2gb max. Virtual memory is no substitute for the real thing and you aren't going to get any extra performance out of that.

I did as you asked. I allocated 2048mb to virtual memory. And for your first question I think I'm willing to spend as much as what I'm asking for. Practically speaking, if I had to give you a number, I would be willing to spend 800 dollars. The price may vary from your results, and that's expected. The most I will pay for a laptop is 1800 dollars. Consider I will be gaming under high heat conditions.

With that kind of budget I would look at the Asus ROG series of laptops.

In reality, anything with an i5 (or i7 for better multitasking) and a decent graphics card (Nvidia GT 750M or better) will be fine.
