Hi all,

Was originally going to get a new system but then due to the fact I travel a fair amount I changed my mind and decided to go for a high end laptop.
Budget isn't too much of an issue, however when I say that I'd rather not be going above $3000.
With that I was looking at the 2014 Razer Blade and Blade pro - only available in the US at the moment but I assume they'll come to the UK by the time I have the funds to buy one. I would have gone something like Alienware but I needed a compromise between performance & form factor/battery life so :p

But the part that's confusing me:
The Blade 14" has 8gb ddr3l ram with a GTX870m (3gb gddr5) and an 128-512 SSD (I'll be getting the 512 but that doesn't make much of a difference). But the blade pro 17" has 16gb ddr3l however only has a GTX 860m (2gb gddr5).
At home most of the time I'll be using it for gaming (Nothing too intense, Dota 2 and FSX albeit with addons), and it will be hooked up to a 1920x1080 monitor. So, does anyone have any opinions as to which is better? I was personally going towards the 14" as it has a better GPU but double the ram in the pro has made me unsure.

Thanks,

Anthony

Go with the 14 inch Blade, as was said above, the GPU is much more important than the amount of RAM. And you will actually be getting better gaming performance with the 17 inch version, just because it has a 1080p screen, the 14 inch version has a 3,200 x 1,800 screen, which is amazing. :D

Just so the OP knows, as it doesn't seem that he's read my post. You will be getting worse performance in gaming with the 14" due to the resolution of the screen, which is about 3 times as much as a 1080p screen. I would go with the 14" and I recommend you to go with it, you just have to know what you're getting.

Indeed, it will perform better in that case. But it will not perform better "anyway", as with the higher resolution screen it will perform worse than the 860M with the 1080p screen. Anyway, I was just posting this to give some more info for the OP as to what he's buying.

Indeed, although tbh if I get the 14" one (probable, now all I wait on is it's arrival to Europe, which better be soon!), I imagine whilst it's connected to my monitor I'll reduce the laptop resolution as all I have on that is Spotify or something of non importance

No need to lower the resolution, the laptop has a great screen, and it should be something you buy it for, not something that you disable. I was just giving you some information, not saying it was a bad thing.

Ok indeed, but thanks, I'll note that; besides knowing Razer and the number they've released so far they'll release another series by the time they come to the UK :p
